Set Max – Transfers the current Heading to the max Horiz FOV box on the left.
Note: The min heading must be smaller than the max heading as the
scanner will only scan while moving counterclockwise.
Make Zero – Sets the current physical position to be 0
°
. The Horiz FOV will now be
with respect to this position.
Go To: - Type in a heading value in degrees and hit
Enter
to position the scanner to
that heading.
In addition, you may turn the laser on as a pointing device (for red laser systems
only).
Typically, for scans less than 360
°
, you pan the DeltaSphere to the desired
starting point and select Set Min. Next, pan the DeltaSphere to the desired ending
point and select Set Max.

Start… Button
Note: If you will be scanning for color as well, use the ‘geared-column’ on your
tripod to elevate the scanner 8 inches (20.3cm). The camera mount positions the
camera’s focal point precisely 8 inches above the origin point of the laser. By
moving the column up 8” for range scanning, and down 8 inches for image
acquisition, all the data is captured from the same viewpoint. Marking your
tripod, or using the supplied 8 inch measuring bar, will make this procedure
quick and easy. Be sure to tighten the geared-column locking-screw after each
change in position to prevent the scanner or camera from wobbling during
acquisition. (See section 6 for detailed information about scanning for range and
color.)
After you have set your scan parameters, cleared the area, and put on safety glasses, select the
Start
button.
If you have not yet created a scene, you will be asked to create one, as described in Section
4.2.1, or to select an existing scene. (All DeltaSphere scans are saved in the context of a scene.)
You will then be asked to specify a name for the scan. A default name will appear from your
configuration file which you may change to something specific to the scan, e.g.
kitchencorner
or
kitchenreference
. The program will append ‘.rtpi’ to whatever name you specify. The name you
choose will also be used in the naming of a subfolder for the scan and for the names of any
images captured with the DeltaSphere color option.
The DeltaSphere-3000 acquires a large number of points. The client PC receives data over the
network from the DeltaSphere-3000 and immediately saves it to disk. During a scan a progress
bar, to the right of the
Start
button,
shows what percentage of the scan is complete.
4.3.4
Range Data
During and after a scan, SceneVision will display the data (see Figure 22). There are many
viewing functions, as well as annotation and measuring functions, immediately available. These
are described in sections 7 and 8.
