SECTION 6: LIFTING AN AIR HANDLER

installing the air handler and any optional eq

ipment.
This appliance req

ires at least 4 CFM (6.8 m3/h) of

tside air per 1,000 Bt
u
/h (.293 kW).
Before installation, check local distri
bu
tion condition,
nat
u
re of gas and gas press
u
re, and the c
u
rrent state
of adj
u
stment of the appliance are compati
b
le. If
filters are not installed (
v
ia inlet hood or filter section),
an air strainer m
u
st
b
e installed on the inlet of the air
handler
w
ith openings less than or eq
u
al to 5/8" (16
mm) in diameter. All air handlers mo
u
nted o
u
tdoors
m
u
st ha
v
e o
u
tside air inlets installed in s
u
ch a
manner that their lo
w
est edge is 16" (406.4 mm)
a
b
o
v
e any s
u
rface. This applies to roof c
u
r
b
s,
u
pright
stands and s
u
spended air handlers.
6.1 Liftin
g
an Air Handler
If the eq
u
ipment arri
v
es
b

ck:
Weather-Rite LLC strongly recommends
u
sing a
crane to
u
nload the air hander. Lift the eq
u
ipment
u
sing the lifting l
u
gs pro
v
ided and spreader
b
ars (
b
y
others). Lift sections separately.

If the eq

ipment arri

y an enclosed

trailer:
Air handler sho

y a forklift

ith
proper
w
eight capacity and a minim

m of six foot
long forks. The eq
u
ipment m
u
st

e fork-lifted from
u
nderneath and ca
u
tion m
u
st
b
e
u
sed to ens
u
re that
the forks do not damage the
u
nderside of the air
hander.
Do not place air handler on the gro
u
nd,
bu
t place on
tim
b
ers or other means to ele
v
ate
u
ntil ready for
installation.
6.1.1 Preparin
g
to Lift the Air Handler
Prior to lifting the air handler, the follo
w
ing steps m
u
st
b
e performed.
1. Remo
v
e all packaging or
b
anding that attached
the air handler to the skid and ens
u
re that the
air handler is no longer
b
o
u
nd to the skid.
2.
Remo
v
e all packaging or
b
lockers.
3.
Remo
v
e all of the accessories or packages that
w
ere shipped on the same skid, inside the air
handler or inside the control enclos
u
re.
4.
Inspect the air handler to:
•
Verify that there is no damage as a res
u
lt of
shipping.
•
Ens
u
re that it is appropriately rated for the
u
tilities a
v
aila
b
le at the installation site.
•
Verify that the lifting l
u
gs are intact,
u
ndamaged and sec
u
red to the air handler.
•
Ens
u
re factory-installed hard
w
are is
torq
u
ed as specified.
5.
Prepare the installation location to
b
e ready to
accept the air handler (i.e. roof c
u
r
b
or mo
u
nt-
ing stand).
6.
Verify that the lifting eq
u
ipment can handle the
air handler’s
w
eight and the req
u
ired reach. For
air handlers
w
eight, see appropriate ta
b
les
on
Page 12, Section 5
.
6.1.2 Liftin
g
a Horizontal Air Handler
6.1.2.1 Reposition a Horizontal Air Handler
Shipped Vertically
Models TT112 thro
u
gh TT218 are shipped
v
ertically
on skids and m
u
st
b
e t
u
rned into the proper position
for lifting into place.
The req
u
ired eq
u
ipment is an adj
u
sta
b
le chain
w
ith
safety hooks and properly rated eye
b
olts (s
u
pplied
b
y others). An adj
u
sta
b
le chain
w
ill allo
w
the
offsetting of the length of the chain to compensate for
the difference in the
w
eight. The side of the
u
nits
w
ith
the motor and mo
u
nted control panel is
approximately 30% hea
v
ier than the opposite side.
The follo
w
ing steps sho

ld

e follo
w
ed to properly
and safely reposition the air handler. Refer to

.
1. Install

olts in location on air handler

eled #1 and #2.
2.
The offset hook la
b
eled #2 is attached to the
eye
b
olt la
b
eled #2. The offset or shorter chain
is al
w
ays attached to the hea
v
ier side of the air
handler.
