INSTALLATION
3.7.5 Pump control
The control system can manage one or two pumps of the water
exchanger, determining the on/off status of each pump and
relative speed. The two pumps cannot operate at the same
time. The pump is turned on when this option is set and when
the unit is in operation.
The pump is turned off when the unit is turned off due to an
alarm, except when the fault is an error of the anti-freeze pro-
tection. The pump can be started in special operating condi-
tions when the heater of the water exchanger is active.
If the pump is faulty and another pump is available, the unit is
stopped and restarted with the second pump. If there are no
pumps available, the unit will be turned off.
The configuration options may vary according to the number
and type of pumps available (fixed speed pumps or variable
speed pumps).
VARIABLE SPEED PUMP CONTROL
NXC chillers and NXH heat pumps can be equipped with one or
two variable speed pumps.
The variable speed pumps allow saving on the pumping energy
costs, providing a precise control of the water flow and improv-
ing the overall system performance. The frequency converter
continuously adjusts the flow rate to minimise the pump ener-
gy consumption with full load or partial load.
The water flow management methods are:
− fixed speed control (the control ensures a constant speed
of the pump according to the compressor capacity);
− water flow control according to the delta of the water
constant pressure (the control acts continuously on the
pump speed to ensure a constant pressure delta);
− water flow control according to the constant delta T of
the water exchanger.

Pump speed configuration can be carried out by R Tech-
nical Support Service only.
PUMP CONFIGURATION
The control can manage the internal fixed and variable speed
pumps and any system pump installed. Variable speed pumps
can be set as fixed speed pumps as well.
The basic configuration of the pumps can be carried out through
the Pump configuration menu. The unit must be stopped.
To set the pump sequence [pump_seq]:
− Scroll the Configuration Menu.
− Select Pump Configuration .
− Set Water Pump Sequence.

PUMP AUTOMATIC SELECTION
If two pumps are controlled and the reversal function has been
selected, the control balances the execution time of the pump
to respect the set pump switching delay. If the delay time has
elapsed, the pump reversal function is activated.
To set the automatic delay of pump rotation [pump_del]:
− Scroll the Configuration Menu.
− Select Pump Configuration .
− Set Pump Rotation Delay.

CONFIGURATION OF SYSTEM PUMPS
Units equipped with external pumps can only have fixed speed
pumps.
To set system pumps [pump_seq]:
− Scroll the Configuration Menu.
− Select Pump Configuration .
− Set Pump Sequence.

The units with system pumps are equipped with a flow switch,
which allows controlling the water flow.
PUMP PROTECTION
When the unit is off the control provides the pump automatic start
option every day at 02:00 pm for 2 seconds.
If the unit is equipped with two pumps, the first is started in even
days and the second in odd days. The periodic turning on of the
pump for few seconds extends the life of the pump bearings and
the tightness of the seals.
To set the pump fast periodic start [pump_per]:
− Scroll the Configuration Menu.
− Select Pump Configuration .
− Set Pump Jamming Protection = Yes.
ECO PUMP MODE
When the unit is in Standby mode (heating or cooling request is
met), the Connect Touch control system can be configured to peri-
odically stop the pump with the aim to save energy.
To check Eco Pump configuration [m_ecopmp]:
− Move to the Main Menu.
− Select Miscellaneous Statuses .
− Check Active Eco Pump Mode = Yes.
