•
yellow messages provide cautions, such as demo mode,
nearing a waypoint or avoidance point, and excessive
cross-track error (XTE)
•
green messages provide information, such as arriving at a
waypoint, passing a waypoint, or changing to a new way-
point
Whenever an alarm message appears on any screen, the 961
simultaneously emits a distinctive audio beep, unless you’ve
turned off the alarm audio. Before turning off the alarm audio,
however, remember that the audio beep is necessary for when
you aren’t looking at the 961’s display screen. For details about
the alarm audio, see ”Understanding the alarm audio” starting
on page 12-7.
Most of the 961’s alarms automatically clear when the alarm
condition stops, although some alarms require manual clear-
ing on the
ALARMS
screen, as described below.
Clearing an alarm
Clearing an alarm means you’ve removed the onscreen alarm
message, and the alarm audio, if on, stops beeping. There are
two types of alarms: alarms that are auto-clearing and alarms
that require manual clearing.
Auto-clearing alarms
Auto-clear alarms automatically clear after the alarm condition
disappears, or in some cases, after a short time-out period.
Manually clearing alarms
Alarms that aren’t auto-clearing stay onscreen until you’ve
cleared them at the
ALARMS
screen. You display and clear all
manually clearing alarms in the same manner:
1. To display the new alarm on the
ALARMS
screen, press
the
STAR
key.
The 961 displays the new alarm in the
NEW ALARMS
box.
