The alphanumeric
KEYPAD
is described below, since you may
need to understand the data entry process before you start
entering position coordinates, waypoint names, and so on. For
a detailed description of the remaining controls, see ”Using the
Controls” starting on page 3-1.
Entering data
The 12-button alphanumeric
KEYPAD
is used for entering
numbers, letters, or special characters into a variety of fields,
such as waypoint coordinates, waypoint names, and so on.
A typical entry screen will display several items of data. First,
choose the item you want to change by pressing the
CURSOR
PAD
to move the flashing cursor to that item. The cursor
appears as a flashing red box that represents the place where
the next typed character is to appear. The flashing cursor indi-
cates which character position will be written into. Use the
LEFT ARROW
and
RIGHT ARROW
keys on the
KEYPAD
to
move the flashing cursor to the next character you want to
enter.
Press the up and down arrows of the
CURSOR PAD
to move to
the next line you want to enter.
When the item(s) is correct, press the
DONE
or
ACCEPT
key.
The 961 will accept the full screen of data and store it in its
memory.
In some fields, such as waypoint distance, bearing, and lat/lon,
you can enter only numbers. In other fields, such as waypoint
names, you can enter letters, numbers, and punctuation char-
acters.
Entering numbers
To enter numbers (such as waypoint coordinates), use the
KEYPAD
to enter zero through nine in the data entry field.
Each new keypress automatically moves the field’s blinking
cursor to the next position. In certain fields where the num-
bers must go into specific positions, such as latitude and longi-
tude, the blinking cursor starts on the left side of the field, and
you enter numbers from left to right. These numbers will auto-
matically go into their correct places.
