For other numerical entries that vary in length, such as dis-
tance, you enter numbers from the right side of the data entry
area.
To correct data entry mistakes, press the
LEFT ARROW
key to
move the cursor back one position at a time, or press the
RIGHT ARROW
key to move the cursor ahead one position at
a time. At times, a
CLEAR ENTRY
key or a
RESTORE ENTRY
key may be available; these keys clear the field of data, or
restore the cleared field, respectively.
Entering letters
The technique for entering special characters or letters, such
as waypoint names and descriptions, varies slightly from
numerical entry.
Each key is labeled with three letters or other special charac-
ters, and a number. Here’s an example: The upper left-hand
key is labeled with the letters
A
,
B
,
C,
and the number
1
. To
enter these characters, press the key once to show the letter
A
;
press the key again to show the letter
B
;
press a third and
fourth time to show the letter
C
and the number
1
, respec-
tively. A fifth keypress returns you to the letter
A
. The other
nine keys use this same method for data entry.
To enter letters or special characters:
1. Find the key containing the desired letter or character.
2. To display the letter or character, press that key one to
four times.
3. To move the cursor to the next position, press the
RIGHT
ARROW
key.
4. Repeat for each letter or character.
Caring for the 961
You must maintain the 961 at a certain level to retain peak
performance. Topics covered here include basic maintenance,
weatherproofing, cleaning the screen, and safeguarding the
chart CDs. For further information about 961 maintenance,
including how to return a unit for service, see ”Maintenance
functions” starting on page 14-16.
