961 Operations and Reference Manual Rev. D
1. At the
DISPLAY SETUP
screen, press the
CURSOR PAD
to
highlight the
SAVE WPTS
option, then press the
EDIT
key.
2. Press the
CURSOR PAD
left or right or press the
ARROW
keys to select either
10
,
20
, or
100
.
3. When done, press the
ACCEPT
key (or
CANCEL
to leave
the option unchanged).
The 961 now automatically numbers your
*SAVEDXX*
waypoints up to the value you’ve set, at which point it
begins to overwrite previously saved waypoints. To per-
manently save a
*SAVEDXX*
waypoint, rename it with an
original name—before the 961 overwrites it.
4. Press
RETURN
to go back to the
SETUP MENU
screen.
NOTE:
The 961 lets you enter a new waypoint name just after pressing the
SAVE
key. If you enter a new name, the
SAVED
waypoint will be
permanently stored, not overwritten.
NOTE:
When the 961 overwrites a *
SAVEDXX*
waypoint that’s still in the
trip or is used in a route, the original coordinates of that point are
retained in the trip or route, and the point becomes unnamed. This
feature ensures that the trip or route isn’t changed.
System security
To implement the 961’s security system, you must first return
the registration card included with your system. Once North-
star receives this card, you’ll then receive the North-
star-defined password for your system. Until you receive this
password, the message on the
OWNER’S MESSAGE
screen,
which appears as part of the 961’s startup process, will read
“
SPECIFY YOUR OWNER’S MESSAGE HERE
.” After you’ve
received the password for your system, you can now specify
an individual owner’s message as well as turn on the 961’s
security system. The password-based security system, when
turned on, prevents users from getting past the
OWNER’S
MESSAGE
screen without entering the proper password.
