4.15.5 Service Channels
The service channel provides access to a remote unit through the digital communications interface
connection. The GARD Pro is capable of two independent service channels (A & B) allowing
access to two remote units. Each service channel consumes a 64kbps timeslot of the internal
communications bus and adds to the digital interfaces data rate accordingly. Service channels
require framing to be enabled on the digital interface which will also add an additional 64kbps to
the interface data rate.
The menu item and page are available/visible only when any digital comms module is installed
in the chassis, or when a display module is installed which is equipped with Digital Teleprotection
and capability to drive the power I/O supply comms interface. See
information on service channels.
