If the PC failed part of its Power-On Self-Test (POST) and the indicator light next to the
power switch displays RED, you should take one of the following actions:

to display information about the error and follow the suggested
corrective action.

Press
[F2]
to run SETUP and correct the System Configuration error. (Refer to
“Configuring Your PC” for information on using SETUP.)
•
Press
[F1]
to continue and ignore the error. (It is recommended that you fix the error
before proceeding, even if the PC appears to start successfully.)
Corrective actions for POST error messages are described in the following table.

The capacitor has discharged as the PC has been unplugged from the
power outlet for three days or more. Run SETUP and enter the time and
date. If this happens every time you start your PC, contact your authorized
HP service representative.

1. Ensure the configuration stored in EEPROM has not been cleared by
system board switch
CONFG
being set to ON (refer to “Troubleshooting
and Error Messages” for details).
2. If the hardware has been changed, run SETUP to update the
configuration information. Note that SETUP automatically fixes most
errors.
3. If the problem persists, contact your authorized HP service
representative.

1. If you don't start (boot) your PC remotely, run SETUP. Set `Remote
Start' to `None' and set `Protocol' to `Not Used'. (Refer to “Configuring
Your PC” for details.)
2. If the `Remote Start' field is set to `None' in SETUP, initialize the system
ROM as described earlier in this chapter.
3. If the problem persists, contact your authorized HP service
representative.

1. Ensure the memory modules are installed correctly. (Refer to “Installing
Accessories” for details.)
2. If this fails to correct the problem, initialize the system ROM as described
earlier in this chapter.

If the POST is not in Your Language
If the POST screen is not in your local language when you switch ON the PC, initialize the
system ROM, as described earlier in this chapter.
