Configuring Your PC
Overview
This chapter explains how to configure the PC using SETUP.
SETUP is an integrated program stored in ROM, used to tell the PC about items installed in
it. Use SETUP to view or change the following settings:
•
Date and Time
•
User Preferences
•
Processor Information
•
Main Memory
•
SCSI and IDE Drives Interface
•
Flexible Disk Drives
•
Security Features (including System Administrator Password)
•
Parallel and Serial Ports
•
Network
•
Video Modes
•
IRQ Map for Accessory Boards
•
BIOS Version.
SETUP has three types of entries:
•
entries filled automatically when the PC detects hardware, during the Power-On Self-
Test (POST)
•
entries providing information only, which cannot be changed
•
entries you can set to your own values (for example, passwords).
NOTE
If you can't change the PC's configuration in SETUP:
The System Administrator Password is set, "locking" all SETUP entries except
Date, Time, and User Preferences.
You didn't enter the correct password when you started SETUP.
System board switch
SECUR
is ON, protecting the configuration. (Refer to
“Troubleshooting and Error Messages” for details.)
