A cover lock, to protect your PC's accessories and switches.

A system board

switch, to protect the configuration (refer to ”Troubleshooting
and Error Messages”).

User Password to:

prevent someone starting the PC without entering the User Password
◊◊
prevent access to User Preferences in SETUP
◊◊
allow the keyboard, mouse, and control panel to be locked using either the Keyboard
Lock Button or Keyboard Lock Timer.

System Administrator Password, to prevent access to the configuration settings in
SETUP.
•
Start With Keyboard Locked. This can be used when the PC is a network server and a
User Password is set. In this mode, the PC can be restarted but the keyboard is locked
until the User Password is entered. (Refer to "Configuring the Network Interface".)

Disabling starting (booting) from the PC's disk drives:

Prevents the PC being started in your absence.
◊◊
Allows Remote Program Load to be used to start the PC from a network server.
(Refer to "Configuring the Network Interface".)

Disabling the flexible disk drive to prevent application software and operating system
files being copied to or from the PC's mass storage devices.
•
Disabling the IDE and SCSI integrated interfaces to prevent application software and
operating system files being copied to or from the PC's mass storage devices.
•
Disabling the parallel and serial ports and the PCI Integrated Ethernet Adapter, to
prevent data being printed or copied onto a network.
You can disable the passwords using the system board
PSWRD
switch. (Refer to
“Troubleshooting and Error Messages”.)
To set the System Administrator Password:
1. In the Security Features group, highlight the
System Administrator Password
field.
2. Press
[ENTER]
, type your password, and press
[ENTER]
.
Type your password again, and type
[ENTER]
again to confirm it.
To set Start With Keyboard Locked:
1. Check that a User Password has been set.
2. Highlight the
Start With Keyboard Locked
field.
3. Press
[F7]
or
[F8]
to set the field to
Enabled
.
