2. If your PC has only one IDE drive, check the other drive is set to
None
or
SCSI
.
3. If you have installed an IDE drive that uses the integrated Enhanced IDE controller,
check the IDE
Integrated Interface
field is set to
Enabled
and that SETUP has
detected the drive.
4. If you have installed an IDE drive that has its own controller board, set the IDE
Integrated Interface
field to
Disabled
. Configure the controller board as
described in its manual.
5. In the
Data Transfer Method
field, select either
Enhanced
for maximum
performance, or
Standard
if IDE devices do not work properly.
6. For hard disk drives with more than 1023 cylinders, make the following selections in the
Translation Method
field. Select
Automatic
for MS-DOS and OS/2,
Extended
CHS
for Netware,
Standard CHS
for UNIX, Windows NT, and Banyan Vines.
Custom-Configuring Non-HP IDE Drives
If you have installed a non-HP IDE drive, SETUP detects and configures it automatically.
If the drive is not detected, there may be a hardware problem. If the drive uses the
integrated IDE interface, check that the interface is enabled.
If the drive is detected during the Power-On-Self-Test, but you cannot access it, you should
enter the details of the drive which are displayed in the SETUP program. You cannot enter
the drive's details if they are not displayed by the SETUP program. Refer to the section
Hardware Problems
in “Troubleshooting and Error Messages” for possible solutions.
To enter a non-HP IDE drive's details:
1. Highlight either the
Drive 1
field or the
Drive 2
field, and change the setting to
Custom
. Drive 1 is the primary drive and Drive 2 is the secondary drive.
2. Highlight each drive parameter field you want to change.
3. Press
[F7]
or
[F8]
to change the value, or type in the new value supplied with the drive.
NOTE
Your IDE hard disk may be recognized but you can't access it with your operating
system. In this case, make sure the disk is formatted and has an operating system
installed. (Refer to your operating system manuals.)
Configuring the Security Features
Your PC has various security features to protect its configuration, your data, and your
software. These features are:
