You should not park vehicles
with trailers on a grade (hill).
However, if you must park on a
grade, have someone place
wheel chocks under the trailer
wheels.
For more information, see
"Parking On Hills" later in this
section.

CAUTION
Trailer brakes of adequate size
are required on trailers of more
than
680
kilograms loaded
weight.
ffi
CAUTION
Do not exceed the maximum
allowable tongue weight for
your vehicle.
Trailer Recommendations:
•
Do not exceed your vehicle's
Cargo Weight Rating. This
figure is the maximum weight
of the load your vehicle can
carry, not including the weight
of passengers.
•
Weigh your vehicle with the
trailer attached.
If you are using a weight
distributing hitch, weigh the
vehicle without the spring bars
in place.
The gross axle weight ratings
and the gross vehicle weight
rating must not be exceeded.
•
You will get the best perfor
mance if you spread the weight
of your load properly and if you
choose the correct hitch and
trailer brakes.
Section 3
Hitches
It's important to have the correct
hitch equipment. Side-winds and
rough roads are a few reasons why
you'll need the right hitch. Here
are some rules to follow:
•
The maximum permissible
trailer loads are vehicle and
engine dependent and must
not be exceeded.
•
If the trailer is heavily loaded,
be sure to use a properly
mounted, weight-distributing
hitch and sway control of the
proper size. This equipment is
very important for proper
vehicle loading and good
handling when you're driving.
