Seats and Restraints

There are four basic types of add
on child restraints: infant car beds,

rear-facing child restraints,
forward-facing child restraints and

booster seats .

When choosing a  child restraint,
take into  consideration  not only
the  child's  weight,  size  and age,

but also whether the restraint will

be compatibie with your vehicie.

The restraint manufacturer's

instructions should state the
weight and height limitations for
the particular restraint.

With an  infant  car bed,  make sure
the  infant's  head  rests  toward the
centre of the  vehicle.

CAUTION

Newborn infants need

complete support, including
support for the head and neck.

In a crash, an infant in a rear

facing child seat settles into the

restraint, so the crash forces can
be distributed across the stron-

gest parts of an infant's body,
the back and shoulders.

Infants should always be

secured in appropriate infant
restraints.
