Operating Button-Based Consoles
44
ON HK/OFF HK (Release)
Pressing this button hangs up the telephone and route all radio audio back to its normal
destination. This button has no effect if the phone is on hook (it cannot be used to take the
phone off hook), or if this console is not the one that has acquired the phone channel (the
locked out positions cannot hang up a telephone channel). On all positions, the button’s
red LED is constantly on whenever the telephone is off hook. This function was
previously called
ON HK/OFF HK
and is still programmed that way in CPS.
Mute (MIC Mute)
Pressing this button toggles the console Microphone off and block the transmit audio to
the telephone. The receive audio from the telephone is still heard on the console. Pressing
the button again restores the Microphone audio to the telephone. This button’s red LED
blinks when the Mic audio is muted. If the telephone channel has been locked out by
another position, this button has no effect. This function was previously called
CHANNEL MUTE
and is still programmed that way in CPS.
Patch (Patch XMIT)
Pressing a telephone channel’s
PATCH
button enables its audio to be patched to any other
channel. The telephone receive audio is sent to the Unselect speaker while it is patch
enabled. The telephone must be off hook and not in Hold mode before pressing the
PATCH
button else it is ignored. Hanging up a patched telephone channel by pressing the
ON HK/OFF HK (RELEASE)
button also cancels the patch. The
PATCH XMIT
button
can be used to allow the operator to talk over all patched channels (including the
telephone). This is the only transmit function that allows the Mic audio to go to the
telephone, but only if the telephone is patched. If the telephone is not patched, it acts like
the other transmit functions described below.
Using the Telephone
Receiving a Call
When the telephone is on hook, any incoming audio is routed to all Consoles’ Unselect
speaker and cause the
ANSWER
button’s red LED to flash. Therefore, make sure the
Unselect speaker volume control is turned up loud enough so that the ring signal can be
heard. Pick up the telephone by pressing the
ANSWER
button and then talk and listen to
the calling party just like on a regular telephone. When your conversation is finished, press
the
RELEASE
button to hang up the telephone.
Originating a Call
Press the
ANSWER
button to take the telephone off hook, wait for the dial tone, and
punch in the desired telephone number to call on the console’s numeric keypad. A leading
digit is
not
required here since the console knows that this is a telephone channel. When
the called party answers, talk and listen just like on a regular telephone. When your
conversation is finished, press the
RELEASE
button to hang up the telephone.
