TRANSMIT
button is illuminated. The Busy LED on the channels that you are
transmitting on also turns on. While speaking, you should speak loud enough, and close
enough to the microphone, that you cause the level meter to have most of its bars
illuminated.
You may transmit on unselected channels by pressing and holding the desired channel’s
INSTANT TRANSMIT
button.
Patching Operation
Optional - Multiple Patches per Console Position
The 8-Patch Card is an optional card for the Model 4020/4048 CCE units. This card
allows 1-8 simultaneous patches to occur between the 24 channels. Each patch can be
either simplex (causing the active receive audio of one channel to be transmitted to all the
other channels in the patch) or full duplex (simultaneous talk and listen) between any two
of the available channels.
The console allows you to cross patch a channel to several other channels or to a telephone
line. To bring up the patch, press the
PATCH
buttons for the desired channels. The patch
button’s green LED is illuminated on the console that requested the patch. All other
console positions have their corresponding patch red LED illuminated. You may remove
the channels or telephone line from the patch at any time by again pressing the desired
PATCH
button.
Once in operation, the first channel/telephone to have receive activity causes the console
to retransmit the activity over all of the other channels/telephone. When the receive
activity has stopped on the source channel, transmission on the other channels also stop.
You are able to monitor the patch in operation in the normal manner. You may also
transmit to any channel in the patch in the normal manner.
Prior to adding a telephone party to the patch, you must first connect with the telephone
line using your telephone instrument and dial the desired telephone number. After you
Warning!
Patch users should be informed about proper radio procedure
before using the patch. First, as in any voice operated (VOX)
patch, the first syllable is often lost. It should be assumed that
the first word spoken is not heard. Radio operators using VOX
should prefix their communication with an audio preamble that
is not critical to the message.
After 2 to 3 seconds of silence the patch circuit halts
retransmission, so long pauses in a reply should be avoided. It
is best to plan in advance what is to be said.
Because the retransmission does not stop immediately after
the last word, the other party should hold his reply until 5
seconds have elapsed. It is recommended to use the word
“over” so that the other party knows where to time his reply.
