Safety Kit for Customer-Provided Laser Module
The Safety Kit TIRF for customer-provided laser modules (432921-0000-000) includes a safety shutter for
the laser module (laser shutter) and a connection cable. The components of the Laser TIRF safety kit are
shown in Fig. 6-3.
If you intend to use a self-provided laser module, place the laser shutter directly at the exit aperture of
the laser beam between the coupling unit and the laser aperture before the first start-up.
Plug the connector (Fig. 6-3/
4
) of the laser shutter into the converter board (Fig. 6-3/
3
). The other plug
1
) of the connection cable is connected to the distribution box for laser safety.
The laser beam must be fully blocked by the shutter blade (Fig. 6-3/
2
) in the down (currentless) position.

customers' own laser modules
If customers use their own lasers, the responsibility for laser safety of the complete Laser TIRF
imaging system shall rest upon the user. He has to check whether additional laser protection
measures are required and whether the laser warning labels on the Laser TIRF imaging system,
including the microscope, are still valid.
If the total laser power exceeds 500 mW, further laser protection measures on the microscope
are necessary.
If lasers with a total laser output of > 500 mW are used or if the spectral range of the lasers
used is outside the range of 400 nm to 700 nm, check the protective effect of the laser safety
covers and incubators.
Inform the laser safety officer about the intended first start-up of the Laser TIRF imaging
system.
The national laser protection requirements have to be observed.
