Objectives to Be Used with the Laser TIRF Imaging System
The functional principle described in Section 2.2 makes specific demands on the correction state of the
objectives used.
From the relation between the angular aperture of an objective and the numerical aperture (NA):

it follows that only an objective with a high numerical aperture of 1.33 (corresponds to 61°) achieves the
critical angle of total reflection at a glass/water boundary layer.
As the laser beam itself also has an aperture (divergence), a numerical aperture of the objective larger
than 1.33 must be selected to ensure that sufficiently high laser power will be emitted to the specimen.
For this reason, the method is optimally suited for combinations with the following objectives:
