shutdown, perform one of the following:
•
If the system is off, power on the system.
•
If the system is at the OK> prompt, type boot.
NOTE: Error messages are recorded in the Backup/Restore Log.
6. Click [OK] to continue. As the backup begins, the sequence of
events is as follows:
a. The warning window closes and a busy cursor appears for
approximately two minutes as the system prepares to
initiate the backup process.
b. The system shuts down and powers off. Wait 30 seconds,
then power the printer back on.
c. During the boot process a caution is raised that states “this
System Backup process will take n minutes. Type Y to
continue, type N to terminate the process. Perform one of
the following:
–
Type N and the boot process continues, but the backup
process terminates.
–
Type Y to continue the backup process. The main GUI
displays once the backup process is complete.
d. When the Solaris desktop would normally appear, the
printer starts to generate the “iso” file that is used to create
a bootable CDA series of messages resembling the
following display: 10% done, estimate finish Wed. Jun
16 10:05:34 2004.
e. The actual CD writing process begins. A series of
messages resembling the following displays: Writing
track 1... 59%...
f.
The CD is finalized as the writing process nears the end:
Finalizing (can take up to 4 minutes)...done
g. After the CD writing is complete, the CD is ejected.
Remove the CD, label it and store it in a safe place.
h. Next, a series of “Dump” messages resembling the
following appears as the file systems are dumped: DUMP:
Writing 32 Kilobyte records.
i.
For each file system being dumped, after the first 10
minutes, the screen is updated every 10 minutes with an
estimate of how much more time is required to complete
the backup. If the dump for an individual file system takes
less than 10 minutes, this message does not appear. The
entire dump process for all file systems normally takes less
than 45 minutes, but may take over an hour depending on
the volume of customer data files stored on the system
disk. After the file system dumps are complete, the normal
boot process resumes and the printer should come to a
ready state.
