Online Gateway
Online Gateway Setup
The Online Setup tab enables the System Administrator to
configure the channel interface and set up channel devices. Doing
so provides the mechanism by which the controller communicates
with the channel interface to receive data from a host.
NOTE: Online Setup can be configured only if the Online Gateway
package has been installed.
To set up the Online gateway:
1. Select [Gateways...] from the Setup menu, and choose the
Online Setup tab.
2. Enter a Host Channel Address and a Host Name, if desired.
•
Host Channel Address (optional): The address of the
channel to which the channel interface connects. The host
uses this address to send data to the channel interface.
Valid values are between 00 and FF, inclusive.
•
Host Name (optional): The name of the host to which the
channel is connected. No verification is performed. The
maximum number of characters is 40.
3. Select a data transfer mode. The differences between the data
transfer modes are speed and cable-length requirements.
More Information...
Data Transfer Modes:
–
Single Tag Interlock: The slowest option. Single tag
interlock is cable-length dependent and limited to 200
feet (61 m).
–
Double Tag Interlock: Twice as fast as single tag.
Double tag interlock is cable-length dependent and
limited to 200 feet (61 m). The system should operate
in double tag mode unless constrained by
configurations to channels with cable lengths greater
than 200 feet (61 m).
–
Data Streaming: Cable-length independent up to 400
feet (122 m), and is usually reserved for fast devices
(including Xerox printers) that operate at extended
lengths. Systems should operate in Data Streaming
mode only at your direction and configuration. Data
Streaming mode is not “interlocked;” therefore, data
transfer errors may occur. If data transfer errors do
occur, the printer must be switched to the next lower
data transfer mode. When Data Streaming is enabled,
you can select between two different data rates.
4. Add any devices and/or modify any options required for
controlling the devices on the channel. Devices that are
