– Place timing chain »tightly« onto sprocket of high-pressure
pump and then bolt on the guide rail -arrow-.
Further assembly is basically a reverse of the dismantling se‐
quence.
– Install camshaft adjuster with timing chain for camshaft drive
⇒ page 105 .
– Install cylinder head cover ⇒ page 68 .
– Install lower part of intake manifold ⇒ page 178 .
– Install upper part of intake manifold ⇒ page 181 .
– Fill with new coolant ⇒ page 142 .
Note
It is not necessary to retighten cylinder head bolts after repairs.
1.3 Removing and installing cylinder head
cover
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Sealant - D 454 300 A2-
Removing:
All cable ties which were opened or cut during removal must be
renewed at the same locations.
– Remove upper part of intake manifold
⇒ page 181 .
Note
Seal the intake ports in the intake manifold and in the cylinder
head with a clean cloth.
– Pull off or disconnect all other electrical wiring from cylinder
head cover as necessary and lay to one side.
– Loosen bolts for cylinder head cover, working from outside in
-17…1-.
– Unscrew bolts and remove cylinder head cover.
