You must purchase the Class 3B Conversion Kit to support removing the sample area cover
the fiber optic accessory. If you purchase the kit after the base system is already installed, the
kit must be installed by a Thermo Scientific Field Service Engineer (FSE). The FSE will apply
proper Class 3B rating labels and will provide basic laser safety training.
Using a Class 3B Fiber Optic Launcher Accessory
To install a fiber optic accessory
1. Remove the laser filter from the system and slide the fiber optic launcher into the laser
filter opening.
WARNING
Avoid eye injury. The system is a Class 3B laser product emitting visible or
invisible laser radiation. Exposure to laser radiation could cause permanent eye damage.
• All persons using or in the vicinity of a Class 3B system must wear safety eyewear that
exceeds the specifications for the laser in use
• Do not look directly into a laser, even when wearing laser safety eyewear
• Set up a laser safety area in the location where a Class 3B system is being used
• Making adjustments, using controls, or performing procedures that are not specified
in the documentation could result in exposure to hazardous visible or invisible laser
radiation.

• Do not put anything except samples against the tip of the fiber optic probe.
• Always wear laser safety eyewear that exceed the specifications for the laser in use.
• Do not look directly into the tip of a fiber optic probe or the fiber optic probe
connectors, even when wearing laser safety eyewear.
• Set up a laser safety area in the location where the fiber optic accessory is being used.
Make sure to follow all safety precautions before installing the fiber optic accessory.
Making adjustments, using controls, or performing procedures not specified in the
documentation could result in exposure to hazardous visible or invisible laser radiation.
