The software begins creating a chemical image of the preview region. The image is
displayed in the left pane (see
The chemical image contains an average spectrum collected at each sampling point. The
number and locations of the spectra that make up the chemical image are defined by the
Image pixel size setting. The number of passes is defined by the
A mathematical algorithm (defined by the selected
) is applied to each spectrum to
create the chemical image. The
shows the scale or range and
corresponding colors used by the selected profile.
During the preview scan, the status bar shows the start time, percent completion and total
time for each scan and the estimated time to complete all requested scans. You can
interrupt (and restart) the preview scan at any time.
10. Adjust the
Image pixel size
and
Aperture
settings, if needed, to optimize the image data
(for example to sharpen the image or show more or less detail).
11. After you change a setting, click
COLLECT Preview
to redraw the preview image so you
can see any improvements in image quality. When you are satisfied with the settings, you
are ready to select analysis regions and acquire the final chemical image data.

These settings are used to acquire a chemical image of the selected region or regions in the
displayed optical image or mosaic.
