Folders and Shares
Folders (also known as directories) are located on each logical volume.
Each folder contains a group of files and/or other folders. If desired, a
folder can be shared (made available for use by other people on the
network). Sharing enables remote users to access the folder as if it is a
folder on their own system. Shares can be NFS (UNIX, LINUX), CIFS
(Windows), or both.
When you create a folder using the BlueScale web interface, you specify
whether it is shared as an NSF or CIF folder, or both. After the folder is
created, you can use the BlueScale web interface to change the share
characteristics of the folder, including removing the share so that it is no
longer accessible to remote users.

Before you begin using a NAS volume to store data, you create one or more
folders to organize the information stored on the volume. When a new
folder is created, it is automatically shared using NFS and/or CIFS.
Create a Folder
Use the following steps to create a folder on a NAS volume.
1.
Log into the BlueScale web interface (see
Access the BlueScale Web
Interface on page 56
).
2.
Select
Configuration > NAS
. The NAS page displays.
Note:
You also have the option of creating folders and shares when
you create a NAS volume (see
Creating a New Logical Volume
on page 107
).
