The software included on the nTier500
system drives includes the
following:
Microsoft Windows Storage Server operating system
Distributed File System (DFS) for remote replication
Spectra Logic BlueScale web interface
Note:
Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) and Spectra File
Manager are no longer available for purchase with the nTier500.
These applications are only supported as legacy solutions.
Windows Storage Server Operating System
The Windows Storage Server operating system running on the integrated
application server provides ease of management for users familiar with
Windows environments, Active Domain security, and rights management.

for information
about accessing the Windows Storage Server operating system.
Keep the following guidelines in mind when performing operations
through the Windows Storage Server operating system:
Use Microsoft naming conventions when creating folders or
replications.
If you reboot the Windows operating system while the BlueScale web
interface is active, check the event log for error messages generated
when the BlueScale web interface is shutdown.
Refer to the Windows Storage Server documentation for information about
and instructions on the use of services and applications (see
Microsoft
Windows Operating System and Software on page 14
). A few specific
Microsoft-related limitations are noted throughout this guide.
Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS)
Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS), a feature of Windows Storage
Server, is a replication engine. After you set up replications through the
BlueScale web interface, DFS transparently handles the replication. See
Chapter 7 – Configuring Replication
for detailed information about
configuring and using replication.
