Obtain the Updated Device Driver

The Device Drivers tab on the Firmware & Drivers page of the
Technical Support portal provides links to tape drive
manufacture’s web sites. After you find the desired driver,
complete the instructions in this section, beginning with
Step 7 on page 147 .
ƒ
The instructions in this section provide an alternate method
for locating the LTO device drivers on IBM’s web site. You
can also use the link on the
Device Drivers tab of the Firmware
& Drivers page.
ƒ
For libraries that use one of the tape drives to provide the
robotic control path through ADI, you may also need to
install the Media Changer driver (see
Step 4 on page 149 ).
Use the following instructions to locate and download the LTO tape drive
device driver.
1. Connect to IBM’s Fix Central web site at
http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral
ƒ
If the nTier500 has internet access, connect to the Windows
operating system (see
Accessing the Windows Operating System on
page 67 ) and use Internet Explorer to access the IBM Fix Central
web site.
ƒ
If the nTier500 does not have internet access, access the IBM Fix
Central web site using a computer that does have internet access.
Important
The Windows Storage Server operating system requires you to install device
drivers before the application software can correctly communicate with tape drives,
either in a library or standalone, that are connected to the nTier500. Always confirm
that you have the most current driver available for any tape drives you have
connected to the nTier500.
Important
Do not use the Hardware Update Wizard in Windows Device Manager to install
device drivers for tape drives or other devices. The wizard does not install the
drivers correctly on the nTier500. If you previously installed device drivers using
the wizard, you must remove the drivers and then reinstall them as described in the
following sections.
