Wait while the nTier500 completes its power-on sequence, which can take
up to ten minutes, depending on the nTier500 configuration. During the
power-on sequence, the nTier500 initializes all of its installed components
and starts the BlueScale web server.

The BlueScale web interface provides a number of tools for monitoring the
health and performance of the nTier500 and its components.
System messages provide important information about the nTier500
and its operation. See
Check System Messages on page 84
for
instructions.
Tabs on the Overview page provide an at-a-glance system status. Each
tab represents a group of related components. The color of the tab
indicates the overall status of the components in the group. See
Monitor
the Status of Components on page 87
for instructions.
Clicking on a tab expands the page to display detailed status
information for the components in the group (see
Check the Status of
Individual Components on page 88
).
You can also use the BlueScale web interface to do the following:
View the status of applications and services running on the nTier500
(see
View the Status of Applications and Services on page 90
)
View the current network configuration settings (see
View Network
Configuration Information on page 92
)
Configure volumes and replication as described in the chapters
following this one.
Check System Messages
Check the system messages regularly. These messages provide important
information about the nTier500 and its operation. Reviewing the messages,
which provide important information about library problems, is also the
first step in troubleshooting.
The
Messages
button on the menu bar lets you view all of the messages
posted by the system. The icon on the
Messages
button indicates the
highest severity level of any unread (unacknowledged) messages. The
number on the left side of the button, if present, shows the number of
unread messages.
Caution
Do not use the power button to power off the nTier500 unless you are specifically
instructed to do so by Spectra Logic Technical Support. Instead, use the shutdown
procedure described in
Restart or Shut Down the nTier500 on page 93
.
