Before you begin configuring the nTier500, perform the following tasks:
Install the nTier500 and connect it to an Ethernet network (see
Chapter 2 – Installing the nTier500
).
Make sure you know the IP address of the Ethernet port you plan to use
to access the BlueScale web interface (see
Configuring the IP Addresses
on page 48
).
Read
Chapter 3 – Using the BlueScale Web Interface
if you are
unfamiliar with the BlueScale web interface.
If you want to configure replication, which requires logging into an
Active Directory domain, obtain a valid user name and password with
domain administrator privileges. You will need this information for
both the source and target nTier appliances. Read
Chapter 7 –
Configuring Replication
for additional information.

The following steps summarize the process for configuring the nTier500
for use in your environment.
1.
If necessary, add the nTier500 to a network domain. Contact your
network administrator for assistance, if needed.
Note:
You may have added the nTier500 to a domain when you first
connected it to the network.
2.
Install your company’s anti-virus software on the nTier500 application
server (see
Installing Antivirus Software on page 70
).
3.
Install any additional software (for example, a backup application) on
the nTier500 application server (see
Installing Application Software on
page 71
).
4.
If desired, change the default user and system names for the nTier500
(see
Changing the Windows Login Settings on page 74
).
5.
If needed, configure additional network connections to the nTier500
(see
Configuring Network Connections on page 75
. For example, these
connections can be used to connect the nTier to additional networks, to
an iSCSI tape library, or to another nTier500 when using replication.
6.
If desired, configure additional users (see
Configure Additional Users
on page 75
).
7.
If necessary, configure a tape library as an iSCSI target for backup
operations (see
Configuring iSCSI Connections on page 77
).
8.
If you plan to use remote power management, configure RMM (see
Configuring Remote Power Management on page 79
).
