Installing the valve
1. Install a new valve seal

onto the valve
guide.
2. Install the valve

, valve spring

, and
valve spring retainer

in the sequence
shown, and then attach the special ser-
vice tools.
NOTE:
The valve spring can be installed in any
direction.
3. Compress the valve spring, and then
install the valve cotters

4. Lightly tap the valve spring retainer with
a plastic hammer to set the valve cotters
securely.
NOTE:
Be sure to install the camshafts after com-
pleting the procedure in
“ Installing the cylin-
der head. ”
Removing the cooling water passage
cover
1. Remove the knock sensor.
2. Disconnect the flushing hose.
3. Remove the cooling water passage
cover bolts in the sequence shown.
