2.7.1.2 Opening the Windows XP Start Menu

You can open the Windows XP Start menu by pressing the Windows key ( 

 ) or the key

combination 

CTRL+ESC

. From the start menu, you can navigate to the submenus by using

the mouse or the arrow keys. To return to the measurement screen, activate the 

R&S Analyzer

Interface

 button in the task bar.

You can also open the Windows Start menu with the 

OPEN START MENU

 softkey in the

SETUP menu.
The firmware creates the following shortcuts in the Windows XP Start Menu:
• “Instrument Driver Actuator”

This shortcut forces Windows XP to reload all instrument specific drivers.
Use this link if a new hardware component is not recognized or a problem with the 
frontpanel keyboard is reported.

• “LXI Configuration”

This shortcut opens a dialog box to turn LXI on and off.

• “R&S Analyzer Interface”

This shortcut starts the analyzer application.

• “Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Registry Readonly”
• “Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Deactivate Registry Readonly”

This shortcut turns the Windows registry write protection on and off.
The registry write protection is available if the Registry Write Filter package (available with 
Windows XP SP2 or SP3) is installed. For details see the Operating Manual.

2.7.1.3 Windows XP Software Approved for the Instrument

The driver software that is used and the system settings of Windows XP have been fine-tuned
to support the measurement functions of the R&S FSQ. Thus, flawless instrument function is
ensured only if software and hardware approved or offered by Rohde & Schwarz are used.
Using other software or hardware may cause the functions of the R&S FSQ to perform
improperly or fail.
The following program packages have been successfully tested for compatibility with the
measurement instrument software:
• R&S FS-K3 – Software for measuring noise factor and gain
• R&S FS-K4 – Software for measuring phase noise
• R&S Power Viewer (virtual power meter for displaying results of the power sensors of the 

R&S NRP-Zxx series)

• Windows XP Remote Desktop
• FileShredder – For reliable deletion of files on the hard disk
