5.5.4 Measurement of AM-Modulated Signals

The R&S FSQ rectifies the RF input signal and displays it as a magnitude spectrum. The
rectification also demodulates AM-modulated signals. The AF voltage can be displayed in the
time domain if the modulation sidebands fall within the resolution bandwidth.

5.5.4.1 Example – Displaying the AF of an AM-Modulated Signal in the Time Domain

Test setup:

Settings on the signal generator (e.g. R&S SMIQ):

Measurement with the R&S FSQ:

1. Reset the instrument.

Press the 

PRESET

 key.

The R&S FSQ is now in the default state.

2. Set the center frequency to 100 MHz and the span to 0 Hz.

 key and enter 

100 MHz

3. Set the reference level to +6 dBm and the display range to linear.

4. Elicit triggering in response to the AF signal by using the video trigger to produce a 

static image.

At initial activation, the video trigger level is set to 50%. The trigger level is displayed as 
a horizontal line across the entire measurement diagram. R&S FSQ displays the 1 kHz 
AF signal as a static image in the time domain.
