Cabling Storage Devices
All storage devices require power and signal cable
connections. Devices shipped with the system are already
connected.
There are four types of cabled storage devices:
IDE devices
−
hard disk drive, CD-ROM reader, Zip
drive, or tape backup unit
internal SCSI devices
PCMCIA devices
diskette drive
−
1.44-MB drive.
IDE Device Cabling
The following procedure explains how to cable an IDE
device.
NOTE
The appearance of your device may vary
from the one shown.
1.
Connect the signal cable connector to the connector on
the IDE device.
Take care to prevent bending drive connector pins. Align
the cable connector as shown in the following figure.
2.
Locate an available power connector coming from the
power supply.
3.
Connect the appropriate power cable to the power
connector on the IDE device.
