Surface Remote Groundbed Configuration
In a remote groundbed, the anodes are placed in one location and the
current flows from them to the protected structure. This configuration is
typically used on transmission pipelines or in other places where there are
few other structures that might be affected by the current.
A typical surface point installation is illustrated in Figure 8.21.

Distributed Anode Configuration
The distributed configuration is frequently used in complex areas to provide
good current distribution and to minimize effects on other structures. A
surface distributed groundbed is shown in Figure 8.22. Figure 8.23
illustrates a distributed impressed current bed protecting piling under a
wharf.
