Horizontal Anode Installation
The first step in a horizontal installation is the installation of the anodes.
This is done in a manner similar to that for a vertical anode installation. The
anode installation depends on the spacing of the anodes. If the spacing is
more than 10 feet, it is usually best to excavate a separate hole for each
anode. With closer spacing, it is usually more economical to dig one long
trench for both the header cable and the anodes.
Bare or prepackaged anodes may be used. They are installed, using coke
breeze backfill, in a manner similar to that explained above for vertical
anodes. Again, be certain to follow the design drawings and specifications
during the installation.
Figure 8.20 illustrates a typical horizontal installation.
