6.17 Timer Instructions
6.17.1 Timer Types and Functionality
1) Basic Characteristics
(1) Three time increment multipliers are available (100ms, 10ms, 1ms). The assignment for the three timer
ranges are accessed in the Basic Settings in the XG5000 software. Navigate to the Project Tree >
Parameters > Basic Parameters > Device Area Setup to assign the timers.
(2) Five timer instructions are available based on their functionality as shown below.
Instruction Designations
Operation characteristics
TON
ON Timer
With the enable condition true, the TON begins timing up to the preset (t)
value. When the TON timer’s current time equals its preset time, the TON
bit turns on. The TON bit will remain on until the enable condition is removed.
When the TON’s enable condition is removed, the TON’s current time will
reset to 0 and the TMR bit will turn off.
TOFF
OFF Timer
With the enable condition true, the current timer value will equal its preset (t)
value and the timer bit will be on. When the timer’s current time equals 0,
the TOFF bit turns off. The TOFF bit will remain off until the enable condition
is removed. At that time the TOFF’s bit will turn on.
TMR
Integral
Timer
With the enable condition true, the TMR begins timing up to it preset value.
When the TMR’s current time equals the preset value, the TMR bit turns on.
The TMR’s current time will remain and the TMR’s bit will remain on until a
reset condition turns off the TMR bit and also resets the current time to 0.
TMON
Monostable
Timer
With the enable condition true, the TMON begins timing downward from its
preset value and the TMON bit turns on. The TMON will remain timing down
even if the enable condition transitions to false. When the TMON counts
down to 0, the TMON bit turns off. The TMON will not repeat this process
until a transition of the enable condition occurs.
TRTG
Retrigger
Timer
When the enable condition becomes true, the TRTG begins a countdown
from the preset value and the TRTG bit turns on. The TRTG will continue to
count down even if the enable condition becomes false. When the TRTG
times down to 0, the TRTG bit turns off. It the enable condition transitions
before the TRTG time down to 0 the TRTG current time is reset back to it
(3) Up to 256 timers of any combination of types may be used. The setting value range is 0 to 65535. The same
timer number can only be used in the program (i.e. T001). Duplicate timers will create an Error R2000 and
the program cannot be downloaded.

If the same T0001 is used regardless of index
used, it will be processed as repeated use,
which makes program download unavailable.

(4) Timer value setting available device (Operand available) are integers of P, M, K, U, D, R, etc. with index
functions available. Available index range is Z0 ~ Z3.
(5) In order to reset a Timer, turn input (enable) contact OFF or use reset coil. While reset coil is ON, Timer
does not operate.
