Prepare the Catheters and Transducers
The procedure to prepare the catheters and transducers is as follows:
▪
Start the database program.
▪
Enter and select the
patient name
in the database program.
▪
Click the
New investigation
button in the database program
▪
Click the
investigation
button in the measurement program to start the
pre-test.
▪
Prepare the pump and the pump tube as described in § 2.5.3 (if applicable).
▪
Prepare the flowmeter as described in § 2.5.8 (if applicable).
▪
Prepare the catheters and the transducers. Follow the procedure
depending on the type of catheter being used:
o
Solid-state catheters (see § 3.3)
o
Air-charged catheters (see § 3.4)
o
Water catheters (see § 3.5)
▪
Ask the patient to cough to check the registration of the pressures.
▪
Connect the pump tube to the filling lumen of the catheter.
▪
Prepare the EMG cables and apply the electrodes, as described in § 2.5.7
(if applicable).
▪
Prepare the catheter puller, as described in § 2.5.9 (if applicable).
▪
Click the
Start investigation
button to start the investigation. Follow the
procedure depending on the study being performed:
o
Cystometry (see chapter 5)
o
Pressure-flow study (see chapter 6)
o
UPP (see chapter 7)
o
Gynecology study (see chapter 8)

Reusable Solid-State Catheters
Solid-state catheters (Figure 3.4) can be used to perform pressure
measurements in the bladder, urethra, and rectum. The bladder catheter has
one or two pressure sensors with one filling lumen. One sensor is for
measuring pressures in the bladder (P
ves
), the second sensor is for measuring
pressures in the urethra (P
ura
). The rectal catheter has one sensor for
measuring the abdominal pressure (P
abd
). Solid-state catheters must be
premoistened in accordance with the instruction of the manufacturer before the
investigation can be performed.
