Chapter 7
MUCP is the maximum difference between the urethral pressure (P
ura
) and the
bladder pressure (P
ves
), i.o.w the maximum pressure on the P
clos
channel
between the Profile start marker and the Profile end marker.
Calculated: Urethral closure pressure = [D] = [E]-[F].
MUCP is calculated only when the Profile start marker is present.
Total profile length
The total profile length is the length of the urethra along which the urethral
pressure exceeds 0 cmH2O. This distance is calculated from the puller speed
in conjunction with the time needed for the urethral pressure (Pura) to reach
0 cmH2O. Pura=0 indicates the end of the urethra, providing the transducers
were zeroed at atmospheric pressure.
Calculated: Profile length = Puller speed*[T@(Pura=0)
– Tprofile].
A profile end marker can be placed before Pura reaches 0 cm H
2
O. The total
profile length is then calculated as the product of the puller speed and the time
between the profile begin marker and the profile end marker.
Calculated: Profile Length = Puller speed*[Tprofile end
– Tprofile begin].
Total profile area
The total profile area is the area under the urethral pressure curve [G] + [H].
Proximal area to peak
The proximal area to peak is the area indicated by [G]. It is the area under the
urethral pressure curve between the profile start marker and the peak.
Distal area to peak
The distal area to peak is the area indicated by [H]. It is the area under the
urethral pressure curve from the peak until the urethral pressure reaches 0.
If a profile end marker is placed, the distal area is the area under the urethral
pressure curve from the peak to the profile end marker.
Resting area under stress (RAS)
The resting area under stress is the area under a stress profile, minus the area
of the peaks.
The profilometry results for this investigation are only valid if a LABORIE
catheter puller is used to pull out the catheter during the investigation. Pulling
the catheter manually yields unpredictable, erroneous results due to variations
