Chapter 2
It is important to place the pump tube correctly and to replace the pump tube
after each investigation to maintain a yield accuracy within a 10% window.
When the pump tube is placed incorrectly or not replaced after each
investigation, the yield error can increase up to 40% because the pump tube
loses flexibility and wears out during usage. Replacing the tube after each
investigation is also important to prevent possible cross contamination,
infections, and clogging of the catheter filling lumen.
Install the pump tube as follows:
▪
Open the pump cover.
▪
Unpack the pump tube and stretch the silicon part of the tube once to
improve its flexibility.
▪
Put the pump tube on the rollers. Make sure you have approximately an
equal length of silicone tubing on both sides of the pump and that the
output of the tube protrudes from the pump on the arrowhead of the
indication.
▪
Close the pump cover, but do not stretch the pump tube while closing the
cover.
▪
Put the spike of the pump tube into the bag of saline. To prevent water
spillage, put the bag on a table before inserting the spike. Make sure the
spike is pushed all the way into the bag, up to the rim on the spike.
▪
Hang the bag of saline on a hook.
▪
Connect the pump tube to the filling lumen of the catheter.
▪
If applicable, you can use the holder on the water hook to adhere the pump
tube.
▪
Flush the pump tube to expel any air from the tube (in the pre-test).
▪
Start the investigation.
Pump calibration
LABORIE advises NOT to calibrate the pump when the pump is performing
well within acceptable ranges. When the pump performance deviates,
LABORIE recommends that you first determine the cause of the problem; for
example, the filling lumen of the catheter is blocked, the spike is not pushed all
the way into the bag, or a non-specified pump tube is used. Only calibrate the
pump when there is no solution to solve the problem.
Calibration might be necessary with a small catheter filling lumen in
combination with a (too) high flow requirement. You can find the procedure to
