Gynecology Study
8.1
Introduction
The Gynecology study consists of three parts:
•
Filling phase (cystometry)
•
Urethral rest and stress profiles (UPP)
•
Voiding phase (uroflow)
During the filling phase the pressure/volume relationship of the bladder is
measured. The filling phase is used to assess detrusor activity, bladder
sensation, capacity, and compliance. The voiding phase registers the miction
flow and voided volume during micturition and measures the relationship
between pressure in the bladder and flow rate during bladder emptying.
Urethral pressure profiles are performed with a partially filled bladder. You can
repeat this procedure for different bladder fillings. The UPP part of the study
can be performed manually or by using a catheter puller. The pull speed can
be set in the investigation protocol (see § 12.5).

During a Gynecology study the patient should be awake, un-anaesthetized,
and neither sedated nor taking drugs that affect bladder function. Any
variations should be specified.
