▪
Remove the cap from the abdominal catheter. Be sure that no moisture
enters the catheter.
▪
Connect the abdominal catheter to the blue (P
abd
) pressure transducer and
tighten securely. Be sure to connect in the OPEN position (Figure 3.7).
▪
Instruct the patient to cough to remove any excess air before charging the
catheters.

▪
Press the
Zero
all
button to zero all pressures to atmospheric pressure.
▪
Charge the catheters (Figure 3.8).

▪
Fix the abdominal catheter.
▪
Withdraw the catheter and locate the urethral pressure sensor (P
ura
) at the
maximum urethral pressure (not for UPP).
▪
Instruct the patient to cough to check the registration of all pressures. The
spikes of P
ves,
P
abd
and P
ura
should rise equally in response to the cough,
and the detrusor pressure (P
det
) should remain relatively flat.
▪
Fix the bladder catheter (not for UPP).
▪
Start the investigation (cystometry, pressure-flow study, UPP, or
gynecology study, see chapters 5 to 8).
