Working with Memory-Module Kits
Working with Memory-Module Kits
Adding system memory to your server is an easy way to make
programs run faster. The main memory in your server uses
memory modules called dual-inline memory modules (DIMMs) for
temporary storage of data and instructions.
Your server comes with a minimum of one 32 MB, 60 nanosecond
(ns) EDO ECC DIMM. You can install from one to three extra
DIMMs into the connectors on the system board.
Your server supports four, industry-standard, 168-pin, gold DIMMs.
The optimal speed is 60 ns. You can install 32 MB, 64 MB, and 128
MB DIMMs. The maximum amount of system memory your server
supports is 512 MB.
Notes:
1. Memory modules can have a maximum height of 30 mm (1.2
in.). If you use DIMMs that are greater than 25 mm (1.0 in.) in
height, you cannot install a full-length adapter in the bottom
expansion slot on the riser card.
2. During startup, the power-on self-test (POST) sets the system
memory to 60 ns.
What to do next?
Before you install memory modules, review the information
in “Standard and Optional Memory-Module Configurations”
on page 69.
To install or remove a DIMMs, go to “Installing or
Removing DIMM Kits” on page 69.
