Working with Internal Drives
preinstalled hard disk drive, this is your startup drive, and it
already has a SCSI ID of 0. The CD-ROM drive has a SCSI ID of 6.
Narrow SCSI devices can use IDs 0 through 6. Wide SCSI devices
can use IDs 0 through 15. The cabling in your server supports
narrow SCSI devices. Refer to the instructions that come with the
SCSI devices for information about setting a SCSI ID.
Termination Requirements
All PC Server 315 models come with an UltraSCSI adapter
preinstalled as a standard feature. This adapter provides
termination for one end of the SCSI bus (cable) in your server.
However, both ends of the SCSI bus must be terminated. The steps
required to set the termination for the other end of the SCSI bus are
as follows:
PC Server 315 models that come with a hard disk drive
preinstalled in bay 6.
The termination for the hard disk drive is set to Enabled. When
you install additional SCSI devices in bays 3, 4, and 5, you must
disable the termination for the devices before you install them.
PC Server 315 models that do not come with a preinstalled hard
disk drive.
These models come with a device, known as a terminator,
attached to the last connector on the SCSI cable. When you
install SCSI devices in bays 3, 4, or 5, you must disable the
termination for the devices before you install them. However,
when you install a SCSI device in bay 6, you must Enable the
termination on the device before you install it; then, you must
remove the terminator from the last connector on the cable and
attach the cable to the device.
Note: You can not enable termination on the CD-ROM drive in
bay 2.
Refer to the instructions that come with the SCSI device for more
information about termination. Refer to the User's Reference for
additional information about your server's SCSI subsystem.
