REMEMBER!
To leave the Programming
Mode at any time, press the
Esc
key. Doing so will
return the CP-220A to its
normal operating mode.
Programming changes will
be stored automatically.
PARAMETER 20:
DTR
Default
:
PARAMETER 14
is defaulted to [00], which disables the function.
Advancing to Next Parameter:
The next parameter in
Category C
is
PARAMETER 20.
Because it is not
sequential, it cannot be reached with a single press of the
key. To
advance to
PARAMETER 20
, press the
N
key.
The CP-220A displays the parameter just programmed ([PARAMETER
NUMBER 14]) with its first digit flashing, indicating its request for the
next parameter number.
You can reach
PARAMETER 20
by pressing the
1
key and the
3
key.
DTR HANDSHAKE OFF MM/DD/YY HH:MM:SS
Background:
PARAMETER 20
provides a fundamental means of verifying that the
Automation System's
computer is operating and is connected to the
CP-220A. If enabled,
PARAMETER 20
allows the CP-220A to use its
DTR
connection point to detect the presence of an external voltage level – also
known as
DTR
– originating at the computer, which is delivered via the
cable connecting the two devices. This voltage level will be continually
monitored by the CP-220A, which, as long as it's present, confirms two
basic conditions:
• power is applied to the
Automation System
• the cable running between the
Automation System
and the
CP-220A is secure
NOTE: DTR refers to
Data Terminal Ready,
the term used by the
RS-232
protocol to indicate the readiness of a computing device for
communications. See page 2-74 for additional information
pertaining to
RS-232
.
While these two checks are only rudimentary, they do provide a basic form
of supervision between the two components (which is supplemented by
PARAMETER 21
).
Note that the default, [DTR HANDSHAKE OFF], must be used under any
of the following conditions:
• when there is no
Automation System
present
• if such supervision is not desired
• if the
Automation System
does not provide a
DTR
voltage level
for use by the CP-220A
NOTE: If
PARAMETER 20
is enabled, the computer's
DTR
level must be
enabled, as well.
