5.11 General directions
5.11.1 Ball and roller bearings
Specially designed bearings for the bowl
spindle
The bearings used for the bowl spindle are
special to withstand the speed, vibration,
temperature and load characteristics of
high-speed separators.
Only Alfa Laval genuine spare parts should be
used.
A bearing that in appearance looks equivalent
to the correct may be considerably different in
various respects: inside clearances, design and
tolerances of the cage and races as well as
material and heat treatment.
NOTE
Using an incorrect bearing can cause a serious
breakdown with injury to personnel and damage to
equipment as a result.
Do not re-fit a used bearing. Always replace it with
a new one.

Dismantling
Remove the bearing from its seat by using a
puller. If possible, let the puller engage the inner
ring, then remove the bearing with a steady
force until the bearing bore completely clears
the entire length of the cylindrical seat.
The puller should be accurately centered during
dismantling; otherwise it is easy to damage the
seating.
NOTE
Do not hit with a hammer directly on the bearing.

For bearings where no driving-off sleeve is
included in the tool kit, use a puller when
removing bearings.
