External cleaning
The external cleaning of frame and motor should
be restricted to brushing, sponging or wiping
while the motor is running or is still hot.
Never wash down a separator with a direct
water stream. Totally enclosed motors can be
damaged by direct hosing to the same extent
as open motors and even more than those,
because:
•
Many operators believe that these motors are
sealed, and normally they are not.
•
A water jet played on these motors will produce
an internal vacuum, which will suck the water
between the metal-to-metal contact surfaces
into the windings, and this water cannot escape.
•
Water directed on a hot motor may cause
condensation resulting in short-circuiting and
internal corrosion.
Be careful even when the motor is equipped
with a protecting hood. Never play a water jet
on the ventilation grill of the hood.
