Defining SNMP Users

Password
— Define the local user password. Local user passwords can contain up to 159
characters. This field is available if the Authentication Method is a password.
•
Authentication Key
— Defines the HMAC-MD5-96 or HMAC-SHA-96 authentication level.
The authentication and privacy keys are entered to define the authentication key. If only
authentication is required, 16 bytes are defined. If both privacy and authentication are
required, 32 bytes are defined. Each byte in hexadecimal character strings is two
hexadecimal digits. Each byte can be separated by a period or a colon. This field is
available if the Authentication Method is a key.

Privacy Key
— Defines the Privacy Key (LSB). If only authentication is required, 20 bytes are
defined. If both privacy and authentication are required, 36 bytes are defined. Each byte in
hexadecimal character strings is two hexadecimal digits. Each byte can be separated by a
period or colon. This field is available if the Authentication Method is a key.
Modifying SNMP Users
The
Edit SNMP User Page
provides information for assigning SNMP access control privileges to
SNMP groups. The
Edit SNMP User Page
contains the following fields.

User Name
— Displays the user-defined group to which access control rules are applied.
Provides a user-defined local user list.
•
Engine ID
— Indicates the local device engine ID.
•
Group Name
— SNMP group, which can be chosen from the list, to which the SNMP user
belongs. SNMP groups are defined in the SNMP Group Profile page.
•
Authentication Method
— Indicates the Authentication method used. The possible field
values are:

MD5 Key
— Users are authenticated using the HMAC-MD5 algorithm.
–
SHA Key
— Users are authenticated using the HMAC-SHA-96 authentication level.
–
MD5 Password
— The HMAC-MD5-96 password is used for authentication. The user
should enter a password.
–
SHA Password
— Users are authenticated using the HMAC-SHA-96 authentication
level. The user should enter a password.
–
None
— No user authentication is used.
