Front Spring Rear Hanger Cam (Figure 39)
On models so equipped, inspect cushion on spring rear
hanger cam. Replace if worn or damaged.
Installation
1. Place rear of spring into rear bracket and raise
front eye into hanger.
2 .Install front pivot pin and nut. Tighten nut 370 lb. ft.
Heavy duty spring bushings are steel-backed bronze
and must be lubricated prior to installation of pivot
pin.
3. Raise I-beam with caster shims in position, index
spring center bolt into I-beam spring seat and install
“ XJ”
bolts, spacers and nuts. Torque bolt nuts
120 lb. ft. Connect shock absorber.

Steering knuckle and kingpin may be removed and
serviced without removing the axle assembly from the
vehicle.
Rem oval
1. Raise front of vehicle and remove wheel and tire and
front hub and bearing assembly as outlined under
“ Front Hubs and Drums-Removal.”
