When you are in letter mode, "A" appears in the upper right corner.
When you are in number mode, "1" appears in the upper right corner.
Entering a single letter
For example, enter a lowercase letter “b” like this:

Press until "A" appears in the upper right corner.

Press

five times to display "b."
To enter a symbol, press
#
repeatedly until the symbol you want appears.
Press any other button or to enter the symbol and move the cursor to
the right.
