Appendix C
17. Ex Gross Margin
1. This field is the gross margin percent, not the
markup percent.
Gross Margin = (Sales - Cost of Sales) / Sales
2. Enter the acceptable range of gross margin for
this item. For example:
25.00 = 25% expected gross margin
3. This figure is used for inventory reports and is
calculated at POS as each item is entered.
4. Along with the expected gross margin percent,
you should set the Low Margin % and High
Margin % values in the Variable File for Sales
(Entry Options, POS Enter Detail Screen). For
example:
Low Margin % = 5.00
High Margin % = 10.00
Expected Gross Margin = 25.00 (in IM1.D)
The acceptable gross margin range is 20-35%.
In
POS:
¾
When entering line detail, the terminal will
beep if gross margin is below the expected
gross margin range (only if
Verify Bad Profit=Y
in
the Variable File for Sales, Entry Options,
POS Enter Detail Screen).
¾
If your password allows you to view costs and
margins for each line item, an
M-
or
M+
appears next to average and/or market cost if
the margin is outside of the acceptable range.
Day End Reports:
¾
Transaction Register. Under the report
heading
M
, a
M-
or
M+
will appear in this
column if the gross margin % was below or
above the expected range on at least one item.
¾
Transaction Dump. In both the report
heading and the detail lines, a
+
or
-
will
appear when the margin is above or below the
expected margin.
¾
Daily Sales By Item Report. Option 6 allows
you to print all items which were above or
below the expected margin.
18. Cost Percent
1. If no other cost value is present (average, last,
market), the percentage in this field (9999.99) is
multiplied by the selling price to compute a cost.
For example:
Selling Price = 2.00
Cost Percent = 80.00
Cost is computed as 1.60
