Appendix C
3. Mfg No
1. The manufacturer’s item number is another way
of selecting items during POS and
Purchasing/Receiving in addition to item number
and catalog number. Very often the manufacturer
will print its own item number directly on the
item on the packaging in addition to a bar code.
2. The mfg number can be up to 15 characters long
including letters, numbers, spaces, and
punctuation marks. It is optional. It can be used
for some items and not others.
3. Duplicates are allowed. When searching for items
at POS and Purchasing/Receiving, the computer
will display the mfg number with the lowest item
number first.
4. Throughout the system, the mfg number may also
be referred to as MFG NO, MFG/UPC NUMBER,
MFG#, and M#.
5. Most inventory reports can be sorted and printed
in mfg number order.
4. Short Desc
1. A short description can be given to each item as
another way of searching for items. Normally the
short description can correspond to the section of
items it is describing (as in group/section).
2. The short description can be up to 15 characters
long including letters, numbers, spaces and
punctuation marks. For example:
HAMMER
DOUG
FIR
NAILS
3. It is optional. It can be used for some items and
not for others although the greatest benefit comes
if all items have short descriptions.
4. Duplicates are allowed.
5. Most inventory reports can be sorted and printed
in short description order.
5. Mfg Name
1. This is the manufacturer’s name (such as Stanley,
Georgia Pacific). It can be up to 15 characters
long.
2. It is optional and for your information only.
6. Item Desc
1. The item description can be up to 31 characters
long including numbers, letters, spaces, and
punctuation marks. It will appear on all POS
transactions (invoices, returns, quotes, orders),
purchase orders, receipts, inventory reports, item
searches, and inventory file inquiries.
2. If the description needs to be longer than 31
characters, use the second description line. See
19. Second Desc
and
20. Second Desc Use
below.
